eight is a cheap SIM-only telco in Singapore that keeps things simple. It operates on the StarHub 4G network. There are only three eight SIM-only plans to choose from, but all three come with International Direct Dial (IDD), international roaming and other perks. eight likes to take its name literally, with plans that have lots of 8s in them in terms of price, data, call minutes and messages.
The StarHub 4G network covers 99.9% of Singapore and, according to eight, offers better connectivity reliability in places like tunnels and basements. All of eight’s SIM-only plans operate on 30-day cycles, include plenty of data and have a decent number of call minutes.
eight SIM-only plans
eight’s cheapest plan, the Double Eight plan, costs under $10 for 228GB of data (usable in both Singapore and Malaysia) per 30 days. It also comes with 588 local call minutes and 88 local texts. Despite its cheap price, it also has some great perks. You’ll get 288 minutes of IDD calls, 88 minutes of IDD Myanmar talktime, free incoming calls and Caller Number Display. This eight Telecom plan also includes 10GB of roaming in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India and Taiwan. Additionally, there’s also 2GB of roaming data in 58 Group A international destinations.
There are a couple of cheaper SIM-only plans from ZYM Mobile and Zero1, but they don’t offer anywhere near the amount of data, call minutes or messages.
eight's newest offering, the Fortune Eight plan, clocks in at just under $12 per month. For your money, you get 488GB of local data (for use in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand), plus a further 18GB for use in Vietnam, India and Taiwan and 8GB of international roaming to 58 Group A destinations. You'll also get 688 minutes of local calls, 128 local SMS, 388 IDD minutes and 88 IDD Myanmar minutes. The only competing plans that come close to the same value are from SIMBA and MyRepublic, both of which are more expensive.
Finally, the Triple Eight plan. Sure, it’s more than double the price of its cheapest plan, but eight’s priciest plan is still under $20 and seriously ups the numbers compared to its cheaper sibling. Users get 588GB of data for use in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, 28GB of roaming in Vietnam, India and Taiwan, and 10GB international Group A destinations. There's also 888 local call minutes and 188 local messages, plus 488 IDD call minutes and 88 IDD Myanmar minutes.
There are cheaper SIM-only plans from competitors, but none of them offer the same value in terms of data, call minutes, messages and international inclusions.
